Weak Week
Hello Friends and Family
This last week was not nearly as crazy. Some good things happened and stuff, but nothing like pranks or peppers or anything.
This last week we set a lady named Stephanie with a baptismal date. She is super solid and has been eating up the gospel really well. She has always "found peace with the Mormons" and the church was always there for her when things got bad for her, and now she has committed to join. You never know the good you do, so always help people. Seeds really do get planted. It's also kind of funny because the last person who got baptized was named Kyle. Kyle and Stephanie. Like my parents. (Technically, Stephenie, for my moms name though)
We knocked quite a few doors this week. My feet are somewhat sore.
Many of the missionaries in my district, including myself, have been very tired. Our last district council was rough getting through honestly because we were so "clocked out" from meetings. We had zone conference recently, so that didn't help. It's kinda funny how we all were feeling the same way on the same day. There are slow days even as a missionary.
In one week I'll be at my 6 month mark. 1/4 the way through the mission. In a week we also have transfers. Isn't that crazy? I feel like this transfer barely started, but here we are. I'll have an entire sister mission to complete starting this transfer. (Meaning, 18 months to go). My companion keeps reminding me that I also have 1 more week in the area. I've been in the same place, and there is a high chance I will be outa here. I could go to North Las Vegas in the ghettos, down to Arizona or California to the desert wastelands, I could go to the Grand Canyon with the natives, or I could stick around Henderson, just another part. Honestly, who knows, I could even stay here yet another transfer. Stranger things have happened.
We're getting haircuts with an investigator today. Well, she's cutting our hair, but we found a way to teach her finally. Funny how things work out. She even agreed to talk more about the gospel with us afterwards. Two birds with one stone.
Here is something funny...my companion has a girl back home, and I got her email last p-day. Heh heh. It was more of a joke than anything, but it was kind of funny to hear back from her. Oh, my companion knows by the way. He thought it was funny. Something I learned from Elder Peralta is that it is indeed possible to have fun while still working hard on the mission. In fact, those are the good days. The ones with high spirits, laughter and the holy spirit.
I heard a rumor that it snowed for about 30 seconds the other day over closer to Vegas itself. Strange. Just a week ago I was laying sod. Gotta love the desert.
We had the opportunity to give someone a blessing the other day. The priesthood works wonders. We got a text and we headed right over. Gave the blessing and were out working again. It's very humbling to give blessings. It's all from God. All of it.
I made it to Helaman in my reading. I was inspired by the words in chapter 3 verse 35
-Nevertheless they did fast and pray oft, and did wax stronger and stronger in their humanity, and firmer and firmer in the faith of Christ, unto the filling their souls with joy and consolation, yea, even to the purifying and the sanctification of their hearts, which sanctification cometh because of their yielding their hearts unto God.
The more you study the scriptures, fast, and pray, the more you will have the spirit with you. I have also found that much insight is given through reading ones Patriarchal Blessing. You can receive guidance from God through many means. Something I know to be true, is that if you submit your will to Gods, that is when the blessings begin to flow. If you work hard to obtain the spirit, you cannot fail. Especially when you actually have the spirit with you. A Testimony of the Book of Mormon is also incredibly vital to keeping ones spirits high. If you have neglected to read it, or have not in a while, please do. It is the word of God and is true. Your faith will increase as you study it, as well as your personal happiness and joy. Please Read it. It is True.

Crazy Train
Dear Friends and Family
This last week was nuts. I have quite a few stories to share. They aren't super spiritual but they are just...crazy. Let's not waste any time then.
My companion got a 24 hour flu Wednesday and he got permission to take a sick day. I read a lot, and I even Finished reading "Jesus the Christ". That's such a good book. Very inspiring. It helped me understand the role of the Savior and how to be more like him. I also got super bored super fast that day. I hate being cooped up with nothing to do.
Last Wednesday we had a typical missionary day. We knocked doors, taught people, got tired and retired home at curfew. That night was different. It went like this. After we went to bed we slept until about 3 AM. When suddenly, my companion, whose bed is situated by the window, hears our bikes getting shuffled around. His first thought was, "Oh crap, our bikes are getting jacked", when we hear a tapping at the window. And then a bashing. Someone was hitting our window pretty hard. My companion ninja rolled off his bed, and the next thing we know, someone else starts hitting our glass side door, and then they start hitting the front door super hard and trying to open it. This obviously freaks us out. I immediately jump up and get hit by an adrenaline rush. My companion tells me to run to the peep hole, so I do. I look out, and see nothing--they were covering it. I ran back to the room and grab the taser. (My companion came from North Las Vegas, and he got a taser while he was there. That place is the hardcore ghetto.) So I'm standing in our living room with a taser in my hand, muttering some phrases under my breath (according to my comp) and about ready to kill whatever comes in our apartment. We both go to the door and yell "Who's There?" really loudly. No response. We do it again, and this time we get a response...."It's the APs!", followed by a "It's President Youngblood!"
Elder Moore at this time admittedly got even more mad, because he then realized that it was a prank. By Returned Missionaries. That drove 9 hours from Rexburg Idaho to prank my companion and I. We let them in and they took a picture with my companion, and then they left in about 10 minutes. It took me about an hour and a half to get settled down and back to sleep. I was very mad, and am still very mad because of it.
At least they got a speeding ticket on the way there.
My District Leader right now is Elder Thomas (from Blackfoot Idaho. He's bigger than I am, but slightly shorter. He goes by his middle name. Which happens to be Porter. We are very similar.)
The other day he got a "Man Crate" which is a small crate filled with the spiciest things around. Ghost pepper hot sauce, Carolina reaper hot sauce, and another kind that has the name scorpion in it. Well, he also got some Carolina Reapers. They are the hottest peppers. Ever. Like, 2 million units on the Scoville measurement (I guess it's like the spiciness measurement) AKA basically they are stupidly hot. Well, our district and the zone decided to each try it out. We each tried some of the hot sauces, and almost died. Then we took it a step further Last district council, at the end and at lunchtime, we all agreed to each take a small piece of Carolina Reaper. I'm an idiot, so I did it too. We lined up the cups of milk and got a tub of ice cream. And we tried it out. It was spicy. Very spicy. The small piece would fit on the tip of my pinky. We were all surprised because it wasn't nearly as hot as we were expecting. There were a few more slices on the plate we had, and so I took 3 more slices. They all thought I was mad, but I did it. It equated to about half a pepper. So we all agreed to take it one step further and eat a whole half of one. So they did. I was still dying from the last ones, so I held off a moment (I also held off from the milk and ice cream the longest.) And then there was one slice left. Some of the older elders tried to tell me I wouldn't do it, while others were trying to tell me not to. But I did it. I ate the other half of the hottest pepper. I did it. My tongue burned like crazy. It was insanity. I ended up eating half a tub of ice cream to dowse it out. But here's the thing about the Carolina Reaper. The burning doesn't stop at the mouth. It goes down your throat and into your stomach. Come to find out later....it keeps burning even past that.
I was lucky though. After that we had weekly planning. And as soon as it was over, I got up and left to the bathroom. Aaaaand threw it all up. It was so hot, but totally worth it. Because I ate the hottest (legal) pepper. I did it. And am alive! And then I was working again...
We went on exchanges that day, and I went back to the slightly more ghetto part of Henderson. The people there love heavy metal, so I kind of like going there. They are easy to relate to, easy to get along with, and generally have a good sense of humor opposed to the slightly more uptight people in my own area. It's usually a well needed "break" from things, even though I'm still working, but it is still nice to be around slightly more rowdy folk. We met a guy who was recently baptized that just moved into the ward. He was cool because he plays the drums for a local band and he wears an eyepatch because he's blind in one eye. You just don't see that in my area. He was a cool dude. We also taught a lesson to a guy who was buddies with some of the "Hells Angels" motorcycle gang. He told us some crazy stories afterwards. Apparently his daughter was getting bullied at school and his "buddies" found out about it. He got a call from the school telling him that they might expel his daughter because one of the "angels" showed up to class and was super threatening to the teacher and a couple of students Crazy stuff. What a story too.
That night at dinner, we were with a family that has like 12 kids. Luckily, half of the kids were out of town, so it wasn't as loud as it could have been. We ate Little Caeasar's pizza, and after my exchange companion talked about the missionary work in the area, we somehow found ourselves talking about old 80's cartoons like Transformers, GI Joe, and He-Man. I also learned from these kind members, that they are making a He-Man movie in 2019. My exchange companion and I were stoked.
There is one person we are working with that has mental issues. He's bipolar and is very unpredictable. Long story short, he used to be a member, but wants to get baptized again. We've been helping him for the past couple of weeks. His challenge lately is that he wants to quit smoking. We helped him get some addiction recovery stuff and have been teaching him the discussions. Well, last lesson we had, we were talking about the plan of salvation. He was in the back yard and he decided that he needed a smoke break. He stopped halfway through and he started crying. He was scared that he was doing something so bad that he was going to hell. So next thing we know, he handed me his pack of cigarettes and says "Guys you helped me stop smoking! I'm done!" And he gave us a huge hug. It was cool, but also strange because he randomly started crying. He's a funny guy.
He has also met Obama. His whole family has pictures with him. Neat, huh?
Yesterday we did some service for Will and his family. He and his brother are converts, and his younger brother is a non member. They were laying some sod down in a pretty decently sized back yard and they called in their "secret weapon" which was us, I guess. My companion worked for a landscaping business back home, so he knew what to do. I'm pretty sure I laid sod once before, but apparently I did a good job. A good job laying the sod. They also fed us a lot when we were there. Hispanics are the best for that reason alone...because of all the food they freely give to me.
I learned today that I might be going to eat Buffalo Wild Wings with an investigator for lunch. This is such a weird week. This has easily been the weirdest week of my whole mission.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ is true. Live it and you will be happy.

Bearded Baptism
Hello friends
And family!!!
How are you all doing?!
Hopefully good.
I am doing well. I have had a long week, but in a good way. A lot of cool things have happened. New people have sprung up to be taught, and we had a Baptism this last Saturday. I don't know if you all remember the bearded hobo grandpa I never had? I had the opportunity to baptize him. It makes it even more special because he has a beard and is named Kyle. Like my dad. Just, he has a few years on him. It was awesome to feel the difference in his home the following day of his confirmation. It's different for sure. He has already had some cool miracles occur in his life too. He is awesome!
I had one day this week when we had the district leader, the zone leaders, the assistants to the president, and the President himself all call in one day. All for different things. It was stressful. My companion and I were a little worried there for a while, but everything was alright. It was just a strange coincidence I suppose.....
The days have been flying by. We are out and about so much that I sometimes get into this trance of door knocking and talking that it oftentimes flows quickly. It is an amazing experience to be a Missionary. What a blessing indeed. I have been hearing from other missionaries that "2 years is a long time" and that "you still have a long way to go". Honestly....I disagree. 2 years is a drop in the bucket in comparison to the rest of life. That is by no means a bad thing. My perspective anymore always seems to be pointed towards the future. We set goals and make plans as missionaries to accomplish the work and invite other to come unto Christ. This means that our vision is always towards the future and helping people repent to meet the qualifications for Baptism, and taking their first steps to eternal life. When one looks with such a perspective, all other things seem to be much easier. Or at least more easily overcome. What a blessing it is to have such a divine perspective!
I have been very tired lately because we have been knocking many many doors. Walking from 10 to 9 makes one very tired. It is glorious though. We meet people of all different facets of life and opinions. Many different religions too. It only strengthens my testimony though. It is humbling to have the truth that we do have, and that it is freely given to us. The knowledge we have is a precious gift that should be shared frequently.
This week we will have Zone Conference. President asked me to prepare a Book of Mormon scripture that impacted my life. I have decided to share it here as well.
Ether 12
27 And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.
This scripture has impacted my life because it teaches a very simple but true principle. We have weaknesses. We all do. Through Humility and Faith in Christ, we are made strong. Strength is a positive thing that we all need. Sometimes when we are getting strengthened we have "growing pains". It's like being sore from working out....but then you only improve. Then you can handle more.
Oftentimes, especially in the modern day, humility is viewed as weakness. Far from it. Being Humble is one of the key attributes we need to acquire while here in this life. Through being humble, we can learn. It's admitting that we don't have all the answers, that we have those weaknesses, that we are not perfect. It's obtaining a heart that is willing to grow, a mind that is willing to learn, eyes to see, ears to hear, etc. It's Becoming Strong. So, this is my invitation. Be Strengthened. Be willing to listen to the Lord. He has so many wonderful blessings to place upon us, but only if we are open and ready to accept them. Be Happy. Be willing to grow. Be willing to challenge yourself and be Strengthened through Christ. Be willing to Change. This is something I myself am not perfect at--nobody is. However, even that weakness can be strengthened.
Thank you all so much for your love and support (and food)
This Gospel is true, and Brings eternal Happiness. The Book of Mormon is true. God IS our loving Heavenly Father. Jesus Chris IS our Savior. This is my Testimony.

Steaks n Cats
Hello once again friends and family!
This past week has been good. Very good. I am tired. Which is good, because it means work has....occurred. I've had some awesome things happen and have a wacky story or two to share, so let us begin.
First things first. The area is growing. We have grown our teaching pool beyond what it was before. We have some new people we are teaching who are awesome. We had a less active and her boyfriend move into the ward and they want to come back to church! She even wants a temple marriage, and the boyfriend has no idea what he is going to get himself into! We had a lesson that was very "fire" as my companion, Elder Peralta, described it. We have had entire days full of lessons. Granted, one day we had one lesson that occurred and we were just bible bashed the whole time, while the other lessons ended up falling through....but that's okay because the rest of our week has been good!
We have a Baptism coming up! I don't know if you all remember the "hobo grandpa I never had", but he is getting baptized soon! He is a funny guy, and his name is Kyle, which reminds me of my dad. He also has a beard. Which is a plus in my book. He wants me to Baptize him too, so I think he will be the first one I ever perform the actual ordinance to. I'm excited!
We've been walking in our area. Why? My companions bike chain snapped in half. It was tragic and hilarious. However, we are now walking more frequently. It's not the worst, but every companion so far has mentioned that I walk really fast. Apparently sometimes it's too fast. I get excited and motivated and usually speed up though, so I'd rather be walking faster than slower.
The last time we helped out with the food pantry, I found myself being gifted with a delicious Angus tri-tip slab of meat. It was such an honor. And it was delicious. Now, unfortunately, I do not have access to a grill, but I do have a pan that is designed for meats, so I pan fried the cuts throughout the week. It was delicious, and I regret nothing. I have actually found that cooking meats is like therapy for me. Very relaxing. And delicious.
So something very odd happened last night. We were on our way into our apartment when we got a call from the Sister Missionaries who live in the same complex. They requested some aide. We had no idea what for, but we figured "why not"? So there was this one woman in the complex who walks her cat....yep....and the cat ran up a wall. She was worried about it and climbed up to grab her cat and bring it down. Well she got stuck holding her cat. So she couldn't bring it down with her without potentially falling and getting injured. So the sisters found her and called us, because we are tall. So I grabbed the cat, got scratched up and lost grip of it (its tail was about to break) and it ran up the wall again. So then the next time, I held it tight and managed to calm it down. It was strange, but the moral of the story is that apparently women love it when you can calm down small animals. Elder Moore may have impressed some sister missionaries too. Either way, that cat was stupid and I have to wash my shirt now because of all the cat hair.
Here is a scripture that has impacted my life.
Ether 12
27 And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.
Never feel bad because of weakness. If you put your faith in God and humble yourself enough so that He can work with you, then you will be made Stronger. I know this to be true. I have many, many weaknesses. Through Faith, Hope, Humility, and Diligence, all things are possible. My dad shared this quote with me from Jeffrey R. Holland, but I'm going to share it with you. "You can change anything you want to change, and you can do it very fast. That's another satanic suckerpunch; that it takes year and even eons of eternity to repent. It takes exactly as long to repent as it takes you to say, I'll change--and mean it."
Keep fighting the good fight everyone. Remember, the Adversary desires your misery. God desires your happiness. I know that we all want to be happy. I know that my Redeemer lives and that our Father in Heaven is waiting for us to return home. So many wonderful blessings are in store for us if we follow Jesus Christ and keep our Fathers commandments.
Thanks for everything
