New Companion, Same Area

Hello Friends and Family

The last thing me and Elder Bybee did was take Jason on a temple tour.  Many tears were shed because the temple rules.

I am very tired today.  It was a good week. We knocked many many doors and had some cool miracles occur.  We found more people to teach and are excited for this week. We only got kicked out of 1 apartment complex, and only got yelled at 3 times!  It was fun!  Elder Peralta and I are doing well together so far.  He likes to exercise, and eat oatmeal, so he is already losing a ton of weight this transfer.  He has been out roughly a year and 4 months, so he has some experience under his belt.

Something I have noticed about getting out there and knocking tons of doors, is you meet a lot of people.  Some people are grumpy.  Some people like to Bible Bash.  Some people offer you water.  Some people let you in.  Some people yell at you through the door.  Some people give you slices of pizza  and then tell you that you are going to hell.  People are fun.  I have enjoyed getting out a lot more so far this transfer.

We had an awesome lesson yesterday with these two college kids.  The one is a member who fell away but really wants to come back, and her boyfriend went to church with her and immediately got interested.  It was super spiritual.  They're both our age, and that actually weirded me out because it made me realize that I'm college age now.  I should know that in theory, but the calling as a missionary actually makes me feel "set apart" from everything.  Which makes sense, technically.

Something less spiritual that I've been doing lately is pan-frying stuff.  Like Bacon and Beef.  I don't have a grill, but I have a nice pan that has the grooves in it.  It has been delicious and has been a good relaxant for me at the end of the day.  Nothing soothes my soul like the smell of sizzling bacon and a nice cup of chocolate milk.  Also, reading the Book of Mormon.

I honestly don't have a whole lot this time around.  I'm mainly just knocking doors and we're starting to teach lessons this week.  This transfer shall be glorious.

The Church is True.

TRANSFER-MERS

GREETINGS FRIENDS AND FAMILY

First things first
We got transfer calls
What is Elder Moores fate?!
I'm staying in Henderson! Elder Bybee is off to Northern Las Vegas to serve in some Polynesian ward.
My new companion comes on Wednesday!
His name is Elder Peralta!  He's from Mexico from what I've gathered.  Apparently he's tall and somewhat quiet, so we will get along just fine.  We shall see once I actually meet him! It has been a good experience being companions with Elder Bybee.  I learned a ton of stuff while with him.  Now, I will be leading the area! It's quite a privilege!

This last Sunday, we had a baptism!  His name is Jason! I had the honor of teaching him and helping him come closer to Christ.  I remember on day one when we saw him in the Gospel Principles class.  I had no idea who he was!  Little did I know that I'd be helping him get Baptized a month or two later.  See, this kid (I say kid, but we're the same age) made the fatal mistake (sarcasm) of dating a member and getting involved with her family.  I learned a fun little saying that goes along perfect with this scenario.  Flirt to Convert.  No worries about the dating a member part, we had many a discussion asking him if he was getting into the church because of her, and we're good.  His testimony was a sure sign that he is in this for himself, and his future family.  I also had the opportunity to confirm him a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  I don't think I have ever felt the power of the Priesthood so strong until I heard the words coming from my own mouth.  Were they my own? I don't think they were.  Elder Moore could not say such grand things that were said.  Anyways, it was a great experience that I will never forget!  Jason is also pretty funny.  We quote 'Conan the Barbarian' and 'Spongebob' sometimes.

I also have a funny picture to share.  It was a week or two ago.  We were playing p-day sports and we had a face-time lesson with Jason.  Sooooooo we compromised our clothing situation. Ha!

My studies as of late have been focused on Baptism.  Baptism is so cool.  Covenants are so cool too.  Making an Oath with God and promising to serve him and to do good, followed by the gift of the Holy Ghost as a helper and constant companion....is awesome.  It makes me teary eyed just thinking about it.  It connects us with our Father in Heaven and brings us closer to Christ.  If you think about God as our Father, then it is only made better.  The first principle we typically teach to people is simply that God is our loving Heavenly Father.  From there, we can learn more about His nature and His plan for us....and everything falls into place.  He Love Us.  The very air we breathe is a gift from God.  His servants the Prophets speak on his behalf, and they write down their words.  Those are the scriptures.  Angels speak.  And their words are written in there as well.  The very planets and stars in their motion denote of a divine creator.  Alma 30:44 "....The scriptures are laid before thee, yea, and all things denote there is a God; yea, even the earth, and all things that are upon the face of it, yea, and its motion, yea, and also all the planets which move in their regular form do witness that there is a Supreme Creator."

The Supreme Creator is Our Father.  This simple truth puts all things into perspective.  The simple Truth changes everything.  The simple truth Brings Joy.  This is my solemn Testimony: That God is our Father, and he Loves us with all of His heart.  He wants what is best for us, so long as we choose to follow the path back Home to Him.  He has set the terms and Carved the path.  He gave His Only Begotten Son in the flesh for us.  So sometime, kneel in private prayer and give thanks for our Wonderful Father in Heaven for all of the great things He has done for us.  He is listening and Mindful of all of us.

Long Time No See

Hello Family and Friends!

My apologies for skipping out on the weekly email. I have been busy, sick, and have had a few rough days, frankly.  My sincerest apologies again....
But I'm back!

I got sick.  My companion was sick for a while, but then I got sick.  I managed to hold it off...until Friday.  I've been doing progressively better since then.  Thank you contagions....

It rained last week, which is something I did not expect.  It's cloudy today too.  Maybe it will rain...it rains here and then all drains downwards.  It looks really neat.

Transfers are coming up in a week!  Will I stay?  Will I go?  Who knows?! (Well...God does)  My companion has been in this area for 6 months now, and is likely to get transferred out. However, there is a good chance that I will be leaving here too, according to some.  Which would mean that two other elders or sisters would get to take over.  If I do get transferred, I would personally like to see the other side of the mission, which is out of the Las Vegas valley, into a desert wasteland.  Marauding wastelands, Barbarous rocky coastlines, and ice-crowned mountain paths are three of my favorite environments, and one of those happens to be an option for serving in for me.  Perhaps someday I'll serve there.  If not, I'm good here in Henderson too.  My next weekly email will confirm my fate for the next 6 weeks.

We had a cool miracle occur.  One day, Elder Bybee and Elder Moore were in a bad way.  Everything seemed to be terrible, but we decided to get our boots on the ground and tract up some apartment complexes.  We met some neat people and found a former investigator.  His wife apparently nearly met with missionaries a year ago, but he turned them down.  He wasn't super interested it seemed so we kept knocking doors.  Next thing we know, he comes out of his apartment and follows us.  He asks us if he and his family can attend the church and still have hold-ups about the Book of Mormon and Joseph Smith.  We told him absolutely, he is always welcome.  So long story short...we're going to start teaching him and his family.  So, keep working even when everything sucks and you will see blessings.

We have a baptism coming up!  This kid our age started dating a member, and then he started meeting with us.  He's super awesome and we absolutely love 'im.  My companion is going to baptize him and I am confirming him.  It will be a great experience!

We watched the address by President Nelson today.  It was super awesome!  The spirit was strong.  I love and sustain our Prophet.

All is well, and everything will be well...if you trust in God and do good continually.  So do good continually!

It may be short...

Hello friends
Hello family

Today at preparation day we ran to a bunch of different places and so I am admittedly shorter on time to write this email...so apologies for the shortness of it.

We've been helping that hoarder lady still.  That's been long and tiring, but we managed to empty all of her boxes.

We've been teaching Kyle.  He's funny.  He sends us goofy texts about what he's read in the Book of Mormon.  It's neat.

We have been working with a less active family and her unbaptized child (well, attempting anyways) and Last Monday her inactive brother randomly showed up to church and sooo we've been teaching him too.  Miracles happen!

I didn't do anything for New Years except work!  We met some cool people.  Nothing much else to say there.

I'm grateful for all the letters and emails I get from you all.  It's appreciated!

I've been reading in Mosiah.  It's such a good book.  Here is one of my favorite scriptures from it....

Mosiah 4
27 And see that all these things are done in wisdom and order; for it is not requisite that a  man should run faster than he has strength.  And again, it is expedient that he should be diligent, that thereby he might win the prize; therefore, all things must be done in order
...
30  But this much I can tell you, that if ye do not watch yourselves, and your thoughts, and your words, and your deeds, and observe the commandments of God, and continue in the faith of what ye have heard concerning the coming of our Lord, even unto the end of your lives, ye must perish.  And now, O man, remember and perish not.

So, remember to always do things in wisdom and order, and continually seek after righteousness and goodness, so that you don't perish, and come closer to Christ and our Heavenly Father.  I testify of that simple truth, that doing good always brings goodness.  Even if the good is harder to do, it is always way more worth it.

Merry Christmas!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
...friends and family

(P days are on Tuesdays starting next week)

How is everyone?!
Hopefully awesome!  Because it's Christmas!!!
Now, I'll admit.... when it comes to lights, Christmas music, (excluding hymns), and commercialism, I am admittedly a little more "Ba Humbug!", but when it comes to Food, Drink, And Family, I'm all for it!  This Christmas I'll have the opportunity to speak with my family over the interwebs (in case my mom hasn't already posted it on Facebook or shouted praises from the rooftops), which will be glorious and fantastic!  I'm coming up on 4 months now I think? (but who's counting) and so this is the longest time I've gone without speaking to my family (unless we count Junior High and High school when I thought I was cool). Time surely does fly.

Gather round kiddos, because it's story-time.  This last week we've started helping this old lady clean up her house.  She's from New Jersey and has that sweet Joizey attitude, complete with an accent to boot.  That's all well and good, but she is basically a hoarder.  It's difficult moving around her place to help her clean.  We've been moving boxes and just making room to....move.  It's actually going to be quite the project.  It'll probably take the rest of the transfer to fix up!  There are boxes to the ceiling.  My companion is a self-proclaimed perfectionist and he was sweating just from the stress alone.  I was having fun.  It's like going into a cave of wonders.  Oh, and you know how there are cat ladies?  She's a dog lady.  Well, she only has two dogs, but she has a bookshelf of just dog books.  Probably too many.  Also, did you know there is a "dog Bible"? I didn't.  She loves Michael Jackson and the Beegees a lot.  There are also a ton of Michael Jackson books.  We invited her to church,  but she apparently didn't have any nice clothes because they are buried in one of the boxes....we'll see.  This service project may require Divine Patience.

Yesterday at church, I had the opportunity to stand in at someones Ordination of the Priesthood.  Not just anybody though.  I don't know if any of you can recall, but Will? Yeah, he's a priest now.  It was so cool!  We're going to take him to the temple to do some Baptisms next month!  It will be glorious!  He's finally out of his work rut and is getting back to Church.  We've had to teach "keep the Sabbath day holy" a few more times than is normal.  (we've been hounding him.  Elder Moore may have lovingly got in his face at one point).

We had a cool miracle happen.  We were walking home from a long night of knocking doors and taking names, when we walked near our apartment complex.  My companion likes to play this weird game where he tries to kick rocks between my feet as I'm walking ) there's a soccer term that he uses, but I don't much care for soccer, so don't ask me) This particular day I wasn't allowing it.  So, I had been kicking these rocks back, or stopping walking to block them occasionally (while keeping semi-normal pace) when this particular time, I noticed someone directly behind my companion who was stopped and watching this nonsense unfold.  I apologized and said hi and she was mainly just excited because she had been walking all day from the doctors or something, and was glad to see two people doing something at least somewhat interesting.  When she found out we were missionaries, then the conversation shifted.  Roughly a year prior, she had been meeting with the Sister missionaries in her old home before she moved out here.  She went to church a few times, has read a good chunk of the Book of Mormon and was actually excited to meet some Elders.  The Lord prepares people in some very interesting ways.  The odds of us meeting were ludicrously slim, and that is a testament to me of God preparing those who are ready.  We got a return appointment with her, and she was actually incredibly excited to meet with us again.  Also, she wants to become a Chaplain, which is siiiiick.

About a month ago my companion and I decided to stop at a less-active house and see how they were doing.  This less-active is, and has been, married to a non-member for some time.  They were friendly and let us into their home.  We talked with them for a while and eventually it was revealed that due to some deaths in the family, they were in a bad way, and especially around the holidays, were very grieved.  They really appreciated us stopping by, and it helped that we could tell them that they will see their loved ones again.  Well, we hadn't been by since and were busy working in other parts of town.  Yesterday at one of our sacrament meetings, when the closing prayer ended, I remember seeing them stand up, and look directly at us.  They walked straight over and handed us a bag of cookies.  Then, they said they'd call us in a week or two after the holidays and set up an appointment.  One simple prompting to visit this family is already making a difference for them.  What glorious work.  Now, imagine then, what impact each and every one of you has on those you are around all the time?  If great things have small beginnings, then what do those big things produce?  Love one another at all times.  It DOES and always has made a difference.

Remember to honor your family name and do good.  Always do good.  Love your family.  Love your friends.  Love your Savior.

Merry Christmas

-Elder Moore

A message from the transcriber:  We thoroughly enjoyed seeing and talking with Elder Moore on Christmas day.  We're so grateful for modern technology in all its forms that made it possible for each member of our family to participate in the phone call via phone and Skype!
